Jr. Pinchers new album is changing the music landscape in Jamaica

Bob Marley is credited with bringing the world Reggae music which still reigns as the number one selling album on iTunes (Legends Remastered). Scan the Reggae top 10 singles and you will find “Three Little Birds” as number one, followed quietly by Shaggy’s “It wasn't Me”. In fact when you scan iTunes you will find more “Top 40 Adult Contemporary (AC)” Reggae, it’s what the rest of the world is snapping up. But… what happens when other artist grow cold, have no new material and need to get back on the “hot now” train? The answer; switch music genre’s so you can appeal to a wider audience and find a style that others have already done, and then hop on their train. Well if you are a young artist like Jr. Pinchers, you are the Locomotive, the lead conductor, and the train station everyone else uses to get back on top.

"Back Broke", technically is an Electronic song according to iTunes, the largest digital music retailer in the world, and does not easily fit the current radio format of dominate stations like Irie FM, known more for their smooth Reggae vibes and news based morning shows hosted by Ron Muchette. So how does an artist from Jamaica, whose fan base knows him more for soft Reggae love songs, do on radio dominated by controversial dancehall singles laced with lyrics that get them banned off of the radio as fast as they can play them? Quite well, Jr. Pinchers first single is enjoying heavy rotation on Irie FM; Zip FM and Hit FM among others and is gaining momentum/stations daily.

How does this match up to what Jamaicans are listening to on the radio in Jamaica? I took a look at some of the charts used in Jamaica to gauge the top 20 songs. If you use “Richie B’s Energy Beat chart” or “Stampede Street Charts” you will find that what is popular on iTunes does not match up to either chart. I also took some time to review the top singles on both charts and realized that in Jamaica it’s all about the Dancehall (Jamaica’s answer to Hip-hop/Rap of the U.S.). Dancehall is more bravado, more sexual, and grittier than the smooth vibes of Reggae music. Enter any dance hall in Jamaica, you will find more of the “dance” in “Dancehall” and people who will jump from the tops of speakers rising 2.5 stories high. Dancehall is that pent up frustration that needs an outlet on the weekends, so you can go back to work Monday with a clear head.

Juniors’s new style has caught the attention and hearts of the people of Jamaica, so much so that other artist took notice almost immediately. Back Broke is the first single off of Jr. Pinchers as yet untitled 2nd album is a mash-up of hip-hop, Rock, Pop, Dance, and Electronic music all rolled into one, a style that Twinz Beatz call “Slop-Hop.” Reviewing these charts you also realize that what SloppiShizzle Records artist Jr. Pinchers and Producers Twinz Beatz are doing does not fit into either genre, a clear departure from the traditional Reggae or Dancehall album. Dancehall albums in Jamaica are more a mash-up of singles from the top ten to twenty artist playing on the radio with albums released by TAD’S, Roaring Lion, JamJam, and VP Records. Scrambling to release new music, many artists have hit the boardrooms and basement studios to replicate this "new sound". The streets aren't the only ones who noticed these "copy cats". Jr. Pinchers stepped into the studio and recorded a track which can be called a "dis track", but he says he's "just keeping it real"... you be the judge.

3. Back Broke is rated higher by "Consumers" against "Walking on the Moon" by The Dream & Kanye and "Mas" by Nelly Furtado.

4. Back Broke "breaks onto," the top 20 charts with Richie B.

5. Casting for the Music video started yesterday with an open casting call Aug 25th at the Miami casting office.

6. Back Broke video will be shot on Sept 9th on a closed set, to keep the video shoot free of "haters..." lol

Now... "Back Broke" is averaging 3,769 spins on "Imeem!" The single was posted by http://www.one876entertainment.com/ over 2-months ago.

With Vegas right around the corner I am sure the video will be crazy. I hear SloppiShizzle Records will be "Tweeting" live from the set and that video channels are fighting to get exclusive rights to be onset for a "sneak peak" of the video being made.

Casting 5 Male/15 Female DANCERS for house/Electronic Music Video to be shot in Miami the day after Labor Day (Sept, 8th, 09). Lead dancers should be comfortable showing a little skin (such as in a bikini top/bottom) and have a nice body. The vibe of the video is going to be fun & sexy, with just the right amount of humor. If you are part of a “dance crew”, or just a bunch of friends who really like to dance and are good at it, are of age (18 over) and you are available for a full day (12-14 hrs), get your girlfriends together, get your boys together and join us as we film the hottest video of 2009. SloppiShizzle Sends a Cease and Desist order to unofficial Jr. Pinchers website

Could business associates with past ties to Jr. Pinchers be trying to profit off of Jr. P's new found popularity? SloppiShizzle Record received an email from a diligent fan who was trolling Google for info on Jr. Pinchers new project, starting with his new single "Back Broke", when she came across a website making claims to be "The Official Jr. Pinchers" website.. She emailed the link of the website to SloppiShizzle Records main office.

After checking out the website the Law team took action and sent a "Cease and Desist" letter to the web hosting company demanding that the website be taken down for multiple violations of Title 17 of the United States Code sections 106-122. Here is an excerpt from the “cease and desist” order;

“It has come to our attention that person (s) who is associated with (Business name omitted) and (owners name omitted owner of business name omitted) have set up a website that is in direct violation of our Copyrights. Under Title 17 of the United States Code sections 106-122. We are respectfully asking that you remove the website or have the owner correct the website to reflect the material of (business name omitted) and not to associate any of their material to SloppiShizzle Records or Jr. Pinchers. We feel the website was created in an attempt to maliciously defraud consumers who are searching for current content and info on Jr. Pinchers as it relates to his current project, his first single off of his second album “Back Broke.” We also feel the website is attempting to associate itself with the SloppiShizzle Record label, image, and reputation, and there is no formal agreement in place that warrants the creation of this website.”


Here is a list of the violations on the “fake” Jr. Pinchers website:
• Illegal use of SloppiShizzle Records/Jr. P copyrighted images.
• Misinformation of incorrect info under the upcoming shows section of the website
• Unauthorized use of promotional videos
• Unauthorized use of copyrighted logo’s for Jr. Pinchers and SloppiShizzle Records
• Unauthorized biographical info used
• Incorrect contact info (contact info used on the fake website direct potential business away from Jr. Pinchers)

The information requested is intended to substantially conform to the requirements set forth in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. Section 512 (c) (3) (A).”

Jr. Pinchers Back Broke "Breaks" onto the charts in Jamaica!

Reason to Celebrate
Jr. Pinchers has reasons these days to celebrate. Back Broke his first single off of his as yet untitled 2nd album just "Broke" onto the charts this Wednesday. “Back Broke” is a fusion of Hip Hop and electronic music, a style that has been pioneered by Twinz Beatz. “Slop-tronic”, the fusion of sounds is influencing artist in the U.S. and Jamaica. Producers Twinz Beatz of SloppiShizzle Records have been creating “Slop-Hop” for some time now and they have been waiting for the industry to come full circle and catch up to them when it comes to arrangements and sound quality. Jr. Pinchers style of mixing “rapping” & “singing” in a very cohesive way is now showing up in a number of new tracks on the airwaves. A 5-star rating on ITunes does not hurt…The single is enjoying a healthy amount of competition from other singles released the same day by industry heavy weights like Kanye West, The Dream, and Nelly Furtado. With sales of the single reaching as far away as Australia, Jr. Pinchers is doing what he has stated in earlier interviews, "I have been in Miami for two and a half months. I have been trying to extend myself. You have to go out there and take it. You need to go out and bring people to reggae," Junior Pinchers said. Other reviews available to read on ITunes call the song, “amazing!”, “Hottest track of 2009!”, “I am obsessed, love this song”, “Jam of the summer”, and “The beat takes on a style of its own. It’s nice to hear something that does not fall into the same category as all the sub-par music that’s been coming out lately.” The single is enjoying brisk sales on ITunes and is head to head with Grammy artist. Is there a Grammy for Back broke next year?




Often imitated but never...
The single has also created an unexpected shift in the music industry in Jamaica and abroad. Twinz Beatz unambiguous sound is being imitated in several songs currently enjoying heavy rotation as a result of Jr. Pinchers new single. This “sound” can be heard when artist try to speed up a beat and then attempt to use Jr. Pinchers “rapping but sung like lyrical style” to try and compliment the song to make it “hot.” But imitations are never as good as the original. Why eat imitation crab when crab meat is the best you can get. What is Jr. Pinchers response to this? Sources, quoted “off the record “say there is a “dis track” yet to be released. If anyone gets their hands on it I am offering a small fortune for it!

Labels response?
So what does the label have to say about Jr. Pinchers new single hitting the charts this week? Or about the imitators jumping on the coat tails of Jr.’s new sound?

Back Broke, the first single off of the "as yet named album" from Jr. Pinchers is a stark departure from Kamal Thompson's previous music style. Back Broke is a track full of surprises and that is exactly what it did to "Walking on the Moon", Nelly's Mas', and Yayo's Flu. It surprised everyone, coming from left field and is generating considerable buzz in Jamaica, of all places, since this song technically is considered "Electronic."




ITunes, releases weekly emails called "My Alerts" and this week they placed Back Broke head-to-head with Nelly Furtado's new single Mas', Kanye West multi-remixes of "Walking on the Moon", and Tony Yayo's "Swine Flu." Even the Flu could not keep Jr. Pinchers and Twinz Beatz from shinning against all these new releases.

Let’s just hope the iTunes staff see's the wisdom in featuring Jr. Pinchers and his super producers Twinz Beatz on the home page in multiple areas like, new music, Indie music, and new music Tuesdays.

Jr. Pinchers battles Kanye West for sales on the same day!

What do you get when Kanye West, one of the biggest stars on the planet takes a detour into dance music? You get a mega star, Kanye, stuck on the moon. Kanye has had successful projects in the past and is well known for ground breaking albums that defy gravity and this has given him the "machismo" to explore his musicality. "Walking on the moon" is actually a multi collaboration with Terius “The–Dream” Nash"1who is this collaborations dominate entity,and Seamus Haji & Paul Emanuel the hit making Dj/Prodcuers responsible for "Walking on the Moon's" most popular version on iTunes.



The–Dream began writings songs for up–and–coming rappers and hooks for his peers. He got his first publishing deal in 2003, when he signed to Peer Music after writing B2K’s single, “Everything.” He also had an additional hit on Brittney Spear's album, “Me Against the Music” feat. Madonna. But his biggest hit to date is the Rihanna hit "Umbrella." "Walking on the moon," leans heavily on The Dream with the bulk of the 8:31 song being sung by The Dream using his unique vocals and hooks to carry the song, at least for the first 5:20.

Kanye's role in this single is limited to his signature 16 bar flow that he delivers with ease. And that is the extent of his lyrics salted with Swag references, Drunk texting, and your typical money, cars, and girls, but nothing much else.



Seamus Haji & Paul Emanuel pull this whole project together by once again taking a great song and making it better. With over a decade of Dj/Producing under their belts they massage this track to dance classic status.

So why if you have the hottest Hook maker (by way of "The Dream"), a mega star with international appeal (Mega star being Kanye West), and the hit making duo Dj's (Seamus H & Paul E), why does "Walking on the moon" get smashed by Jr. Pinchers vs. Twinz Beatz?

"Back Broke" the infectious hit from the indie label SloppiShizzle Records is tearing up Jamaica's Music Countdown charts with Richie B, the host of Hot Mix on Hot 102 FM. A top 20 countdown show that Billboard uses to chart the top 40 Reggae songs. I know, I know, I know, how does an Electronic song make it's way on a Reggae top 20 chart? By beaing universal, "oh and having the son of a famous Jamaican artist on the track also helps" says Richie B."



Who is this "son of a famous Jamaican artist" Richie B is talking about? Non other than Kamal Thompson aka Jr. Pinchers, son of the famed and loved Pinchers of "Bandelero." Jr. Pinchers, recently signed to SloppiShizzle Records to record his 3rd album after escaping his old label and management.


The "Godfather of Fun" Dj Bill Kelly Co-Founder/Director of the Winter Music Conference, had this to say about "Back Broke."

"Ok “Godfather of Fun” rarely writes about or reviews tracks BUT Jr. Pinchers vs. Twinz Beatz “Back Broke” is no track, this is a song! the hypnotic riff which actually turns out to be a Sax hook captivated me for a quick min but the almost sung like rap lyrics slapped me up side the ear and said LISTEN TO ME!! Alright I have to admit for only six weeks 19,837 plays cred has to be given; however can I say screw cred? My rating of this iTune is I LOVE IT. Now isn’t that all that counts?"

The reviews go on and on like this which in comparison to "Walking on the moon's tepid reviews seems over the top for a completely unknown label. Only on Itunes could a major label like Def Jam Music and an Indie label like SloppiShizzle Records go head to head for consumer attention.



So the question still remains why is Kanye West's new single "Walking on the Moon" having trouble against Jr. Pinchers vs. Twinz Beatz" new single "Back Broke?" I guess you will have to make up your own mind and take the "WOTM vs Back Broke" challenge! I am not going to try and pursuade you either way make up your own mind.
